WET GRASSLAND. GUIDEBOOK ON MANAGEMENT AND RESTORATION

Published by Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Birds/BirdLife Partner in Ukraine and sponsored by BirdLife/Vogelbescherming Nederland and Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (PIN–Matra). The guidebook is a translation of RSPS’s edition “European Wet Grassland. Guidelines on Management and Restoration”.

This guidebook is a first issue of “Conservation Management” Series launched by USPB. It contains the best European experiences in using conservation practices in management and restoration of wet pastures and meadows.

The guidebook aims to:

A separate chapter of guidebook is dedicated to description of wildlife of wet grasslands and their importance for biodiversity conservation and maintaining. It summarizes main threats for wet grassland habitat.

Detailed description of different alternative management techniques presented in the guidebook allows environmentalists and landowners to assess carefully habitat and select and plan the most effective option for restoration of abandoned wet grassland depending on existent conditions.

Large chapter of guidebook comprises of 11 case studies on using practical and traditional management techniques for the wet grasslands. All case studies were carefully selected throughout Northern and Central Europe countries to demonstrate wide range of nature conditions and management techniques. Case studies include conservation of near–natural floodplain grassland of Prypiat (Byelorussia and Ukraine) and largescale projects on restoration of topography and hydrology of Danube floodplain (Germany) and Brede (Denmark).

The guidebook is available to all persons who interested in management and restoration of wet grasslands.
