General recommendations on conservation of Saker Falcon in Ukraine (and particularly in Crimea)
1. Further inventory of breeding sites, including carrying out regular population surveys, monitoring of breeding success and nesting boxes occupation during the breeding period, research on the habitat use, mortality trends etc. 2. Designation of protected areas in natural breeding habitats (rocks and cliffs). 3. Campaign against illegal capture and shooting of birds (adults and young birds). 4. Continuation of conservation projects aimed at improving breeding conditions (through installing artificial nesting boxes and improving nesting conditions in clay cliffs) in the densely inhabited breeding areas. 5. Improving feeding conditions (including introduction of susliks). 6. Awareness raising campaigns among hunters against killing of Saker falcon and raptors. 7. Awareness raising campaigns among electric power engineers about negative effect of ruining nests of raptors during maintenance of power lines. 8. Control of natural nests for disinfection from aspergillosis infection, as well as vaccination of chicks from avian influenza. 9. Reducing mortality caused by electrocution.
